Review INTERMOUNTAIN Nscale Emd F7a And F7b Locomotives Missouri Pacific Jenks Blue Dcc

The **InterMountain NScale EMD F7A/F7B Locomotive (Missouri Pacific, Jenks Works, #844201071656)** is a meticulously crafted, high-detail model that captures the essence of mid-20th-century American railroading with unparalleled authenticity. Built to exacting NScale standards, this locomotive represents the robust and iconic **EMD F7 series**, a workhorse of the railroads that defined freight operations during the golden age of steam s decline and diesel s rise. The model is based on the **Missouri Pacific Railroad (MoPac)**, one of the most storied Class I railroads in the U.S., known for its expansive network stretching from the Gulf Coast to the Midwest and beyond. This particular unit was manufactured at **Jenks Works**, EMD s renowned production facility in Jenks, Oklahoma, where thousands of these legendary locomotives rolled off the line between 1945 and 1953. The F7A and F7B variants distinguished by subtle differences in their headlight placement and minor mechanical refinements are faithfully reproduced, with the F7B featuring a slightly more streamlined appearance and the F7A offering a classic, slightly boxier look.

The attention to detail on this model is nothing short of exceptional. The **bodywork** is cast in fine, high-resolution resin, ensuring crisp definition in every contour, from the bold, angular cab to the smoothly contoured hood and the subtle flare of the side sills. The **paint scheme** is a meticulous recreation of a **Missouri Pacific F7 in its classic black-and-gold livery**, complete with the railroad s iconic **gold lettering and stripe**, applied with precision to avoid any distortion or misalignment. The **gold is a rich, matte finish**, while the black is a deep, glossy enamel that catches the light realistically, mimicking the wear and patina of a locomotive that has seen decades of service. The **numbering** is crisply applied in white, with the **MoPac logo** a bold, stylized "MP" in gold positioned prominently on the sides and ends, adding to the model s authenticity. Even the **small details**, such as the **ventilation grilles, handrails, and coupling hardware**, are intricately molded and often include **metallic or rubberized accents** for added realism.

Under the hood, the **mechanical components** are equally impressive. The **EMD 567C prime mover** is represented with fine cast details, including the **exhaust manifold, radiator, and cooling fans**, all of which are articulated for smooth movement. The **cab interior** is partially visible through the **clear plastic windows**, revealing the **driver s seat, control panel, and instrument cluster** in a way that suggests functionality without overwhelming the model. The **headlight** is a **separate LED unit**, allowing for adjustable brightness and color temperature to simulate day or night operation, while the **running lights** and **coupler lights** are also LED-equipped for realistic signaling. The **couplers** are **Kadee-style**, ensuring compatibility with most NScale rolling stock, and the **truck assemblies** are **DCC-ready**, featuring **smooth-rolling, low-profile axles** with **individual motorization** for enhanced realism and operational flexibility.

For collectors and modelers seeking **historical accuracy**, this locomotive includes **optional decal upgrades** to represent specific MoPac F7 units that operated in various regions, from the **Texas Gulf Coast** to the **Midwestern grain belts**. The **underframe** is also detailed, with **brake rigging, air hoses, and ladders** cast in place, reinforcing the model s commitment to authenticity. Whether displayed as part of a **detailed MoPac consist** or as a standalone centerpiece, this InterMountain NScale EMD F7A/F7B is a testament to the craftsmanship that brings the golden age of railroading to life with unmatched fidelity. Its **durable construction**, **smooth operation**, and **attention to period-specific details** make it a prized addition for any serious NScale enthusiast looking to recreate the sound and sight of a Missouri Pacific freight train in motion.

### Pros and Cons of buying a Intermountain 844201071656 N-Scale EMD F7A/F7B Locomotives (Missouri Pacific/Jenks)

#### **Pros:**

1. **Historical Accuracy and Detail** This model represents the Missouri Pacific (MP) and Jenks Railroad F7A and F7B locomotives, which were key units in the American railroad industry during the mid-20th century. The attention to detail, including accurate liveries (such as MP s classic black-and-gold or Jenks industrial colors), makes it appealing to modelers who prioritize realism.

2. **Versatile Operation** The F7A and F7B are versatile road-switcher locomotives that could operate on main lines, branch lines, and industrial railroads. This flexibility allows hobbyists to use them in a variety of layouts, from large regional systems to smaller industrial setups.

3. **Proven EMD Design** The EMD F7 series was one of the most widely produced and reliable diesel locomotives of its time. The model captures the iconic design features of these engines, including the distinctive front-end styling and functional details like headlights, couplers, and ladders.

4. **Good Availability of Accessories** Since the F7 series was so common, there are numerous third-party accessories available, such as couplers, sound units, and decal upgrades. This makes it easier to enhance the model over time.

5. **Sound and Functionality Options** Depending on the version purchased, this model may come with sound capabilities (via DCC or sound chips) or functional features like working headlights and couplers. Some aftermarket upgrades can further improve realism.

6. **Collectible and Investment Potential** Well-preserved or rare liveries (such as Jenks or early MP units) can appreciate in value over time, especially if they are part of a limited or discontinued run.

7. **Educational Value** For younger modelers or those interested in railroad history, this model provides an opportunity to learn about the evolution of diesel locomotives and the role of regional railroads like Missouri Pacific and Jenks.

#### **Cons:**

1. **Potential for Wear and Tear** Like all plastic models, this locomotive may show signs of wear over time, such as chipped paint, faded decals, or misaligned parts. Some units may require careful handling to maintain their condition.

2. **Limited Customization Without Modifications** While the model is detailed, certain features (such as interior details or underframe components) may not be fully accessible for customization without disassembly or third-party parts.

3. **Price Considerations** Depending on the condition and rarity of the livery, this model can be relatively expensive, especially if it is a newer or highly sought-after version. Used models may also come with unknown maintenance history.

4. **Compatibility Issues** If the model is part of a larger collection, ensure that the couplers and gauge (N-scale) are compatible with other units on your layout. Some older models may require adjustments to fit seamlessly.

5. **Sound and Electronics Dependence** If you purchase a sound-equipped version, there is a risk of electronic failure over time. Basic models without sound may lack the immersive experience some hobbyists desire.

6. **Storage and Display Space** N-scale locomotives, while small, still require careful storage to prevent damage. They may not be as durable as larger models (e.g., HO scale) if handled roughly.

7. **Market Saturation** Due to the popularity of the F7 series, there is a large number of similar models available. This can make it harder to find a truly unique or rare variant unless you seek out specific liveries or limited editions.

---

### **Conclusion:**

The Intermountain 844201071656 N-scale EMD F7A/F7B locomotives (Missouri Pacific/Jenks) are an excellent choice for hobbyists who value historical accuracy, versatility, and classic railroad aesthetics. They offer a balance of detail, functionality, and collectible potential, making them suitable for both beginners and experienced modelers. However, potential buyers should consider factors such as maintenance, customization options, and long-term storage to ensure the model remains in optimal condition.

### **Recommendation:**

If you are looking for a **highly detailed, historically accurate, and versatile** N-scale locomotive that can serve as a centerpiece or functional unit on your layout, this model is a strong recommendation. Prioritize purchasing from reputable sellers to ensure authenticity and quality. For those who enjoy sound and advanced features, investing in a sound-equipped version or upgrading with aftermarket parts can significantly enhance the modeling experience.

For **budget-conscious buyers**, consider looking for used models in good condition or exploring alternative brands that offer similar designs at lower prices. If you are particularly interested in **rare liveries** (such as Jenks or early MP units), be prepared to pay a premium, as these can be highly collectible.

Ultimately, this locomotive is ideal for hobbyists who appreciate the **golden age of diesel railroading** and want a model that reflects the diversity and engineering prowess of American railroads in the mid-20th century.

Details:

I will throw in the TCS decoder paperwork for reference. Up for sale is lot of seven Intermountain Railway Co. Nothing like the Jatos running TGV speed. With four F7A units and three F7B locomotives.

Its due to their heavy weight. These units are excellent running locomotives and they can pull extremely long lengths of trains. This is the complete series of F7 A B locomotives in Intermountain running for Mopar. In the medium flat rate box.

Intermountain does have extra trucks for the locomotive if needed. They are in the box with locomotive. I didn get to add the new micro trains couplets two of A units. Since I have ran them although added the decoders.

Some of the locomotives trucks are loose but they will operate fine with locomotive. All seven are powered and they DCC equipped. They were valued at $169.95 each when they new and without DCC. They don't run super fast.

As you can see in the photo of both A and B units they are almost solid. I have some videos of them running on my layout if you want to see. They are programmed with each locomotive respectively. Their speed is on the realistic side of things.

The road numbers for the B units are to rear of locomotive right next last ladder rung. I added the TCS IMF4 decoders to all seven locomotives. They will operate on DC tracks also.
