The **Broadway Limited Stealth HO Scale EMD F7 (Model #836563009453) York Central Railroad Set** is a meticulously crafted, high-detail model that captures the iconic elegance and raw power of the classic EMD F7 diesel locomotive, a staple of mid-20th-century railroading. This premium HO scale model is part of Broadway s renowned *Limited Edition* series, designed for collectors and enthusiasts who demand authenticity, precision, and unparalleled attention to historical accuracy. The **EMD F7** itself was a workhorse of American railroading, first introduced in 1949, and the York Central Railroad though short-lived operated a fleet of these versatile locomotives during its brief but storied existence in the 1940s and early 1950s. This model faithfully replicates the **F7A** variant, complete with its distinctive **long hood, short hood, and streamlined profile**, while incorporating subtle yet critical details that set it apart from mass-produced replicas.
The **bodywork** of this model is constructed from high-quality **die-cast metal**, ensuring durability and a lifelike weight distribution, while the **painted surfaces** feature a **deep, matte black** with **oxidized silver accents** on the running boards, handrails, and ladders, evoking the patina of a locomotive that has weathered decades of service. The **York Central livery** is rendered with meticulous care, combining **dark gray** (or a muted black, depending on the specific variant) with **yellow or cream banding** along the lower body and **red or orange stripe accents** along the top of the short hood a nod to the railroad s distinctive (though often modified) scheme. The **numbering and lettering** are crisply applied in a **bold, retro-style font**, with the **York Central logo** prominently displayed on the long hood, complete with the railroad s **stylized "YC" emblem** and **route marker symbols** that hint at its New York-centric operations. Even the **smaller details**, such as the **ventilation grilles, handrails, and coupling hardware**, are intricately molded to reflect the era s industrial precision.
Under the hood, the **EMD F7 s signature mechanical components** are faithfully reproduced, including the **radiator louvres, exhaust stacks, and the distinctive "EMD" script** on the short hood s side. The **couplers** are **Kadee-style**, allowing for smooth operation and realistic hook-up dynamics, while the **lights** are **LED-equipped**, providing bright, consistent illumination for both daytime and nighttime operation. The **wheels** are **die-cast brass**, mounted on **separate axles** for a realistic rolling motion, and the **truck frames** are detailed with **brake rigging, springs, and hand brakes**, enhancing the model s authenticity. For those who appreciate **electronic functionality**, this set includes **EIB (Electronic Interlocking Bus) compatibility**, allowing it to integrate seamlessly into modern digital layouts with **DCC (Digital Command Control) systems**, enabling advanced features like **sound effects, lighting sequences, and even programmable functions** for a truly immersive railroading experience.
The **York Central Railroad** itself was a brief but fascinating chapter in American rail history, formed in 1946 through the merger of several New York-based lines, including the **New York Central Railroad s** remaining assets in the state. Though it operated for only a few years before being absorbed back into the **Pennsylvania Railroad** in 1950, its locomotives including the **F7s** played a crucial role in the region s freight and passenger service. This model not only pays homage to the **York Central s** operational legacy but also serves as a **collector s piece** for those who appreciate the **aesthetic and engineering brilliance** of the EMD F7. Whether displayed as a standalone centerpiece or integrated into a **detailed HO-scale layout**, this **Limited Edition Stealth model** delivers an unmatched blend of **historical accuracy, craftsmanship, and operational versatility**, making it a must-have for serious model railroaders and enthusiasts alike.
### **Pros and Cons of buying a Broadway Imports EMD F7 Set (836563009453) Limited Edition "Stealth HO York Central"**
#### **Pros:**1. **High Collectibility and Rarity** This is a limited-edition (LE) model, meaning production numbers are restricted, making it a sought-after item for collectors. The "Stealth" paint scheme and York Central branding add to its exclusivity.
2. **Historical Accuracy** The EMD F7 was a significant locomotive in North American railroading, particularly during the mid-20th century. The York Central Road was a notable New York-based railroad, adding historical appeal.
3. **Quality Construction** Broadway Imports is known for producing high-quality HO-scale models with detailed features, including accurate body styling, functional features (if applicable), and durable materials.
4. **Potential for Appreciation** Limited-edition models often increase in value over time, especially if demand remains strong. This could be a good long-term investment for serious collectors.
5. **Display Appeal** The "Stealth" paint scheme (likely a dark, matte finish) is visually striking and would stand out on a display shelf or in a layout. The York Central branding adds a unique identity.
6. **Compatibility** As an HO-scale model, it will fit seamlessly with most HO layouts and other HO-scale accessories, making it versatile for both display and operation.
7. **Brand Reputation** Broadway Imports has a strong reputation for producing accurate and well-crafted models, which adds confidence in the product s quality.

#### **Cons:**1. **High Cost** Limited-edition models typically come with a premium price tag. This set may be significantly more expensive than standard EMD F7 models, which could be a barrier for casual collectors or hobbyists on a budget.
2. **Limited Availability** Since it s a limited edition, once the initial run is sold out, it may not be re-released. This could be frustrating if you change your mind or if the model becomes harder to find in the future.
3. **No Functional Features (Likely)** Many limited-edition models are designed primarily for display rather than operation. If you were hoping for a working locomotive with features like lighting, sound, or DCC compatibility, this may not meet those expectations.
4. **Storage and Display Space** If you re operating a large layout, adding a display-only model may require additional shelf space, which could be a consideration for those with limited storage.
5. **Market Fluctuations** While limited-edition models often appreciate, there s no guarantee. Economic factors, collector trends, or oversaturation of similar models could affect its long-term value.
6. **Potential for Counterfeits** Due to its popularity, there s a risk of counterfeit or knockoff versions being sold online. Buyers should verify authenticity through reputable dealers or Broadway Imports official channels.
7. **No Guarantee of Future Releases** Unlike standard models, Broadway Imports may not produce another York Central F7 in the same paint scheme, limiting future purchasing options.

### **Conclusion:**The Broadway Imports EMD F7 "Stealth" HO York Central limited-edition set is an excellent choice for collectors who prioritize rarity, historical accuracy, and display appeal over functionality or budget constraints. Its high quality, unique branding, and potential for appreciation make it a strong investment for serious model railroad enthusiasts. However, the high cost, lack of functional features, and limited availability may deter casual hobbyists or those seeking operational models.
### **Recommendation:**- **Buy if:** You are a dedicated collector looking to expand your limited-edition inventory, appreciate historical railroads, and are willing to pay a premium for exclusivity. If you have the space and budget to invest in a display piece that could potentially increase in value.
- **Avoid if:** You need a functional locomotive for operation, are on a tight budget, or prefer standard models that may be easier to find and maintain in value. Also, avoid if you re unsure about long-term storage or display space.
For the best experience, purchase from an authorized Broadway Imports dealer or a trusted third-party seller to ensure authenticity. If you re new to limited-edition collecting, consider starting with a smaller or less expensive LE model to gauge your interest before investing in a higher-priced piece.
The Styrofoam inserts are both in excellent shape. Bodies are in at least excellent overall condition with no significant chips or scratches. Take a look at the photos and see what you think. Of course, the more they ran, squeaks dissipated.
BOTH units are powered. Pardon any camera flash reflection. ALL factory-installed detail parts appear to be present as locos look have been very gently run. As can be seen in last 3 photos, the blackened metal wheels on both units indicate only light to moderate use, and they are also extremely clean. Set stock # is 945.
Price offered. These are very attractive diesels with factory-installed separate metal handrails/grabs. Lightning Stripe black gray paint scheme. Directional headlight illuminates in the A-unit and #1637 number boards illuminate very nicely both directions.
Outer sleeve is shelf-worn, but it remains in good shape as well. I will discount shipping for multiple items won from me on same day. Buyer should give them a good lube oil before putting into full-time service, because they've sat idle in their boxes for quite while and they both test-ran squeaky when first started up. The Stealth Series is DCC Ready and has No Sound, but buyer can always add it.
Package to ship. Both units have the original knuckle-type couplets, which look like Jades to me. Road numbers are #1637 #2421. Boxes are both shelf-worn and still in very good/solid condition.
